
Welcome - to a region full of posibilities!A region is a politically governed administrative unity. A region is a new political concept in Denmark. Until 2007 Denmark was divided into 271 municipalities, 13 counties, the region municipality of Bornholm, two municipalities within the capital, and the State. However, on January 1st 2007 the new reform of the municipalities became effective and the country is now divided into 98 municipalities, 5 regions and the State.

ABOUT CENTRAL DENMARK REGION (REGION MIDTJYLLAND)
The Central Denmark Region has the main responsibility for the healthcare system and a number of social institutions within the region. The region is furthermore the head of collaboration across the regions in a relation to the business communities, the municipalities, and the educational institutions which all have the aim of developing the region.
The region is govered by 41 chosen politicans through whom the region's citizens obtain some influence on how the healthcare system is organised, which treatments and services the healthcare system offers, and its quality. The council commenced on January 1st 2010 and is elected for a four year period.

The region has 1,2 million inhabitants and an area 13.142 square metres.
The number of full time jobs are app. 25.000.
The Central Denmark Region consists of 19 minicipalities of which the municipality of Aarhus is the largest as it has 306.650 inhabitants. The municipality of Horsens is the 6th largest municipality in the region and has 81.957 inhabitants while the municipality of Hedensted has 45.982 inhabitants which makes it the 12th largest municipality within the region.
